VA Palo Alto palliative care unit

We wish to specifically highlight the fact that our VA Palo Alto In-patient Palliative Care Unit is a unique and interprofessional learning environment that is unparalleled in the nation. When rotating through the in-patient unit, our fellows serve as the primary doctors taking care of a large ward of medically complex, seriously ill patients. Fellows serve in the role of palliative hospitalists and are responsible for all aspects of patient care (admissions, ongoing management, interaction with all other subspecialties, coordination of care in an interprofessional milieu, discharge coordination, bereavement care and provision of family support).
