Our fellowship curriculum uses a competency-based training framework and is built on the well-known Kern’s circular approach.

Our Teaching Approach
The bulk of the core curriculum is taught through:
- Immersive small group sessions where fellows get to learn from a faculty expert through discussions on a weekly basis (Thursday AM)
- Osmotic learning in clinical venues with coaching and mentoring by a team of inter-professional faculty experts.

Palliative Core Didactics Small Group Sessions
Once a week, the fellows attend formal didactics on key Palliative Care topics and other aspects of patient care. Teaching occurs in a small group format taught by experts from the faculty members from Palliative Care, Geriatrics, Cardiology, Neurology, Hematology & Oncology, Radiation Oncology, Pediatrics, Psychology, Psychiatry, Quality Improvement, Ethics and many others. All of these talks are in small group format designed specifically to allow fellows to interact freely with expert faculty in a respectful learning climate.

Palliative Care Grand Rounds

Inter-professional Palliative Care seminars
In these weekly sessions, palliative care fellows from the disciplines of medicine, psychology, social work and chaplaincy train together and are taught by an inter-professional faculty.

Inter-professional Palliative Care Journal Club
Fellows and faculty members present and review the latest journal articles and topics relevant to Palliative care.
